2000= TCRA Points System

The goals of the TCRA points system are to increase participation in all Texas canoe and = kayak races, to encourage competition in nationally recognized canoe and kayak bo= at classes, to encourage and reward participation in the TCRA USCA Classes Sta= te Championship Races, and to reward outstanding paddlers.

The TCRA points system will include a competition to select the:

“Male Pa= ddler of the Year”    &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; “Female Paddler of the Year”

“Best USCA Male Paddler”<= span style=3D'mso-tab-count:2'>        &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;         “Best USCA Woman Paddler         =

“Best Male Solo Paddler” =          &= nbsp;       &nb= sp;            =   “Best Female Solo Paddler”

These awards will be based on a combination of participation in all points races designated by the TCRA Race & Points Committee. Points will be awarded in all designated races in which a paddler enters and is credited with finishing the race.

·         All points earned in any designated race will count towards the “Paddler o= f the Year” award.

·         All points earned in designated USCA class races will count towards “Best USCA Paddler” awards. The boat type typically recognized will be USCA “18' 6"cruiser”, “Texas 18' Standard” and “TCRA 17' Aluminum”. Recreational canoes meeting USCA specifications may be raced in the USCA Class.

·         The Solo Class will include paddlers competing in ICF K-1 solo kayaks, USCA Down= river K‑1 & ACA Wildwater K-1.  In recognition that many Texas pad= dlers race Texas Water Safari inspired “solo unlimited canoes”, this canoe type will be allowed in the Solo Class.

Participation Points

·         Any paddler that participates and is credited with finishing a race designated as a points race will receive 1 participat= ion point.

·         Points earned in team boats consisting of two paddlers be equal for both paddlers e.g. each paddler in a first place USCA= C-2 shall earn the first place points. &n= bsp;

Bonus Points

·         Certain boat classes in races designated by = the TCRA Race and Points Committee will identified as bonus points classes. Bon= us points shall be earned as follows: the number of participants in the race w= ill determine the number of points earned.&nbs= p; The winner would receive a number of points equal to the number of racers who complete the race up to a maximum of 10 bonus points.  The second place finisher would re= ceive one less, etc.  All finishers = would receive one bonus point and one participation point.

·         Bonus Points may be accumulated in designated races if, and only if, the designated Bonus Points classes are offered at t= he race.  In other words, if a pa= ddler races ICF K‑1 in a class other than the class designated to be a Solo Bonus Points class, that paddler may receive a maximum of one participation point.   At events where = solo is divided between K-1 ICF and solo unlimited, and these races are held simultaneously, bonus points are awarded based on aggregate finish order.  This applies to Men and Masters US= CA classes.

·         Bonus points may be earned in more than one = race per day within the TCRA USCA/ICF Marathon Points Series in the follo= wing races:

    &nb= sp;  Green's Bayou Canoe Regatta

    &nb= sp;  Austin PaddleSports Festival

    &nb= sp;  Neches River Festival and USCA Regional Championships

    &nb= sp;  TCRA USCA Championships

    &nb= sp;  Dickinson Bayou Brawl

Administration

·         At the recommendation of the TCRA Race & Points Committee, the TCRA Board of Directors may establish corresponding awards for junior or youth paddlers, Masters, ICF K-2, or Novice class.

·         The current one‑race state championship format for determining state championships will not be affected by the poin= ts system.  However, points accum= ulated in these state championship races will be applied to the “Paddler of = the Year” awards.

·         In the event of a tie for the “Best USCA” or “Best Solo” paddler of the year awards, the tiebreaker will be points earned in the State Championship Race.

·         Points Race Requirement‑ Points races = must be approved by the TCRA Race & Points Committee and be announced in the TCRA Newsletter.

·         The current TCRA Race Committee has been expanded in scope to become the TCRA Race & Points Committee.

·         Points will be accumulated & reported to= the TCRA Newsletter Editor by a volunteer member of the TCRA Race & Points Committee.

·         Points are accumulated between Jan. 1  & the December TCRA board meet= ing and may be earned only by TCRA members in good standing on the date of the = race in which points are earned.  N= ovice paddlers may retroactively apply for earned points within 30 days of joining TCRA. Under no circumstances shall TCRA present a points award to a pers= on who is not a TCRA member in good standing.

·         Equal awards shall be awarded to the male &a= mp; female in first position in each class. Framed certificates or similar award would be provided to the to 2 through 5th place points earner in each points category.

·         The Points standings will be posted in each = TCRA Newsletter.  The Points Standi= ngs may also be posted in major Texas newspapers and national publications along with how a person could enter for the following year.

·         Men accumulating a minimum of 50 points in o= ne race season will be awarded a unique TCRA Polo Shirt or similar award signifying their participation in canoe and kayak racing during the year.  Women will be recognized for accumulating 30 points. This is in addition to awards for Paddler of the Year.

·         At the TCRA meeting following the December S= an Marcos Solo race the board shall announce and recognize the “Paddler = of the Year” awards.
