Marine Creek Lake - TCC NW Campus - Fort Worth

Patience proved out.Ý We arrived at Marine Creek Lake at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning during a thunderstorm.Ý The TCC NW Campus Police told us that he had just heard on the weather-radio that the storm would clear out by noon, so we knew to stay. Ý We had good conversation and refreshments while we waited.Ý By noon we were busily unloading our boats and equipment from the street down to the shoreline.Ý The TCC NW campus is a lovely site for a race.Ý We think that it could be suitable for holding a Nationals in a couple of years.Ý Marine Creek is a small spring fed lake that is 30-50 feet deep over the race course.Ý The TCC campus is right on the lake with a cafeteria, gymnasium, indoor pool, weight room, locker room.Ý Marine Creek Lake has a nice 1000M straigtaway with gently sloping lake banks providing a fine view of the race.Ý On this Saturday, however, we did have to contend with a stiff northwesterly wind which made a combination cross wind, head wind.Ý Our races were under way shortly after 1:00 PM.Ý Our FASTEST TIME OF THE DAY also earned Richard Steppe the club's first BRONZE PADDLING ACHIEVEMENT PATCH.Ý His 2:23 in the 500M into the cross-head wind showed why he is known as DFWs toughest paddler.

A special thanks goes out to Laura and Clyde Mahler, our starting and finish line volunteers.Ý Laura fought the wind and the waves all day in her Dancer and patiently worked with all at the starting line.Ý Clyde carefully noted our times and gave each racer his results promptly after each race.Ý It is always nice when recreational paddlers are thoughtful enough to help our racers have some fun.
