The Texas State Championship races held on Saturday July 17th and Sunday July 18th were a nice success. After a brief shower Saturday morning, a field of 20 teams in 5 classes took off at 9:00am. including Unlimited Solo and K-1 ICF classes. The Unlimited Solo Menís class was a hot one with John Bugge edging Lee Deviney at the finish line. Thereafter, photo-finishes & fun became common occurrences. The spectators and fans also got some exercise hiking to the restrooms at the other end of the park..

The C-2 Mixed race was another close one with the team of John Bugge & Susan Williams edged by the team of Fred Mynar & Ginger Turner at the finish line for 2nd place. Sandy Goynes and Chris Blasko did a ëSafarií finish by swimming across the finish line.

The Menís C-2 race was also quite exciting as Roger Myers and Michael Rask teamed up to take the championship from John Dunn and Fred Mynar. Confirmed rumor has it that Michael will be attending the University Texas in Austin pursuing a Masterís degree. This could be dangerous.

Racers dominating the weekend were Roger Myers, John Bugge, David Reichel, Teddy Gray, and Alan Lamb. Every time I turned around I was handing out another trophy to these guys. However, I might recommend to the board we have a special award for the most 3rd place finishes. I couldnít help it Tommy Prochaska. <grin>

Special thanks to Jerry Brown for stepping in and timing a lot of the races. Soon weíll be timing his conversationsÖ.. And many special thanks to Mike Riley for as usual, doing a spectacular job with the Fish Fry.
