2007 Come & Take It Canoe Race

The 13 mile Come & Take It Canoe race is on the Guadalupe River from Lake Wood Park at the H-5 dam to Independence Park in Gonzales. Fred Mynar, Jerry Cochran, and Phi= ll Bowden, with a time of 1 hr. 22 minutes and 17 seconds, beat the 2003 recor= d of 1 hr 24 minutes made by a 9 man canoe.&nbs= p; There were 38 canoes with 68 participants this year. The racers were faster in every di= vision this year since there were no log jams and the flow was around 2100 cfs (cu= bic feet per second). A new award= for the race was added, a “Don’t Pollute the Guadalup” most trashed trophy was awarded to Kirk Wickersheim and Whip McAlister for colle= cting the most litter from the river.
