The low turnout and low creek levels were offset by the high winds on the lake crossing which challenged all, and the best ever T-Shirts. First place overall in the Marathon race went to Mike Stinson and Nick Coutee paddling in a safari three man in 2:16:14 (this boat was originally going to be piloted by Mike, Adam Neville= and Mayor Bill White, but thats another story). Tom Wilkinson ran a strong race= in solo unlimited to finish second overall (2:23:28) and Brad Pennington cursed his way into the finish line in his malfunctioning K-1 to take 3rd overall = in 2:41:03. Anne Best and Bobby Smart took first mixed in 2:58:12 and Gary and Aaron Gi= bson had a strong showing to take first Aluminum in 2:59:46. Wildman Tim Curry and J= ason Dluhy took first Standard in 3:18:32.

The Adventure Race presented probably the most challenging set of checkpoints yet - including the fact that somebody apparently absconded with CP#9. Barbara Tillotson and Scott Weaver took fir= st overall in 4:25:46. They captured all CP's except the missing #9. Chris Sch= warz and his 9 year old daughter Akira were second in 5:31:01 (30" penalty = for missed cp's) and Jason George and Alex Smith were third in 5:52:10 (40"= ; cp penalty). They also qualified for the "my boat is a bucket" award= for the heavy 12' canoe they were paddling. Jason and Alex first ran this race together as 15 year olds, and will be off to University next year. <= br> Thanks to Mike Stinson and Adam Neville for se= tting the cp's the night before the race, Mary Tipton and Jenny Tipton for running Sweeper, Anne Best for helping out with registration, James Graham at South= west PaddleSports for providing the post-race shuttle, the Houston Lake Patrol f= or providing support and security on the course, Lake Houston Park, Kingwood Service Association and all the sponsors.
And special thanks to the racers who have enjo= yed this race over the years.
