Beginning at 6:30 pm, the public, racers and their families are invited to the National Championship Awards Ceremony Banquet and a wonderful presentation by the evenings Guest Speaker.

The Texas Canoe & Kayak Association along with the United States Canoe Association is proud to present:

Executive Director, River Systems Institute, Texas State UniversitySan Marcos

Topic: Texas Waters

 

Andrew Sansom will present a unique viewpoint on Texas waters and the role they play in our lives in Texas, past, present and future.

Andrew Sansom serves as Executive Director of the River Systems Institute and Research Professor of Geography at Texas State University-San Marcos.  He is a former Executive Director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Executive Director of the Texas Nature Conservancy, and founder of The Parks and Wildlife Foundation of Texas.  Under his leadership at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Mr. Sansom spearheaded several important programs, including creating the Parks and Wildlife Foundation of Texas; acquiring hundreds of thousands of acres of important lands for State Parks and Wildlife Management Areas; creating new programs to promote awareness of conservation issues in urban areas; slashing the backlog of deferred maintenance in the Texas State Parks System; and increasing the Department’s efforts to protect and interpret non-game species of wildlife.   Mr. Sansom is a past recipient of the Chevron Conservation Award, The Chuck Yeager Award from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, The Pugsley Medal from the National Park Foundation, and the Seton Award from the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.  His articles have appeared in Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Monthly, Cowboys and Indians, Texas Highways, and The Texas Observer.  He is the author of four books and has a fifth due to be published in the fall of 2012.

TCKRA ICF K-1 FLAT WATER CHAMPIONSHIPS
(With Classes for Surf Ski, and Hybrid/Multi Sport Hulls)

Lady Bird Lake
Austin, Texas


Where: Fiesta Gardens put in Lady Bird Lake. This will be the same course we have used inthe past; 4.3km loops with 150m portage.
Check in: 7:00am – 8:30am
Race Registration is on-site K-1 $20.00 for TCKRA members; non TCKRA member’s $25.00.
Surf Ski, Hybrid/Multi Sport $10.00.
(The TCKRA ICF K-1 race is a Championship race and will be awarded as such. The Surf Ski,Hybrid/Multi Sport races are open races and will be awarded medals 1st-3rd.)
This is a USCA sanctioned event. All racers will need to purchase single event coverage atrace check in for $6.00.
